Carnaval in Mozambique
"Carnaval in Mozambique?" many people ask. Why not? Brasilian culture has large exposure in Mozmbique due to telenovelas, and Brazilian music. It is also not uncommon to see children practicing capoeira in remote locations. Carnaval has also caught on and can be seen in almost every city however in very different dimensions. The most famous is the Quelimane Carnaval, Quelimane is sometimes even referred to as "Little Brazil". Xai Xai also has a go one week after Quelimane. Since 2014 Maputo now has the biggest and most publicised Carnaval with large corporate support. Don't be expecting anything that you may have seen in Brazil, but it can still be a lot of fun. Dates vary but it is usually one or two weeks after Carnaval in Brazil.
